A Summer of Training, Community and Achievement

It has been another busy summer for UKTC Taekwon-Do, with plenty happening both on and off the training floor!

From our Summer Open Day and free taster sessions to summer camps, school visits and some fantastic achievements for our black belts, there has been lots to celebrate.

TC Tiger Gets Involved at Our Summer Open Day!

Our recent Summer Open Day was a fantastic opportunity for the local community to come along, meet the team and try Taekwon-Do for themselves.

We held free Taekwon-Do taster sessions, giving children and families the chance to step onto the mats and have a go at something new.

Of course, TC Tiger couldn’t miss out on the fun!

TC even got the chance to have a look inside a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service fire engine and have a go at using the fire hose!

There was lots of fun throughout the day, and it was brilliant to see so many people from the local community getting involved.

Leaflet Drops & School Taster Sessions

As the summer holidays come to an end and schools return for the first term, our instructors are getting back out into the community.

Leaflet dropping has already begun, with school taster sessions also set to get underway as children return to school.

If you spot one of our instructors out and about dropping leaflets in your local area, come over and say hello!

We love meeting members of the community and introducing more people to the opportunities available through UKTC Taekwon-Do.

Congratulations to Our New 2nd Degree Black Belts!

We also have some fantastic achievements to celebrate following a special grading held at Parklands with Grand Master Harkess.

A huge congratulations to Mr Boyd and Mr McLaughlin, who have both successfully passed their 2nd Degree Black Belt grading!

Congratulations, Mr Boyd!

Mr Boyd began his Taekwon-Do journey over 20 years ago, so it has been amazing to see him return and continue pushing towards this well-earned grade.

It is a fantastic achievement and a brilliant example of what dedication and perseverance can achieve.

Congratulations, Mr Boyd — what an achievement!

Congratulations, Mr McLaughlin!

Many of you at our East Kilbride Academy will have watched Mr McLaughlin grow into the hardworking, talented and kind young man that he is today.

To see him continue progressing through his Taekwon-Do journey and now achieve his 2nd Degree Black Belt is something we are incredibly proud of.

Congratulations, Mr McLaughlin!

An amazing achievement for you both and another important milestone ticked off in your Taekwon-Do journeys!

We are incredibly proud of you both and can’t wait to see where your Taekwon-Do journeys take you next.

Keeping Training Going Throughout the Summer

A huge well done also goes to everyone who continued their Taekwon-Do training over the summer holidays.

While many people were enjoying a well-earned break, our members continued working hard through our summer camps, with some even attending additional sports camp sessions for extra turning and sparring practice.

It has been fantastic to see so many of our members continuing to train, improve and support one another throughout the summer.

The Journey Continues

With the new school term beginning, there is plenty more to look forward to across UKTC.

From school taster sessions and new members joining us to continued training, competitions and grading opportunities, we are excited to see what the next few months bring.

A huge well done to everyone who has trained, competed, graded or simply continued turning up and giving their best over the summer.

Keep training, keep improving and keep supporting each other — that’s what UKTC is all about!

July 2026

It’s been another exciting and action-packed month at EK UKTC Taekwondo Academy, with plenty happening both in and out of the Academy.

Our recent EK UKTC Summer Camp was a fantastic success, with students enjoying a full day of training, including patterns, sparring, and plenty of opportunities to develop their skills alongside friends. It was great to see so many students challenging themselves while having fun in a positive and supportive environment. If you missed this camp, don’t worry—another Summer Camp takes place on 22nd July, and we look forward to welcoming even more students along for another brilliant day of training and grading opportunities.

A huge congratulations also goes to young Niko, who was delighted to finally receive his new belt, badges, and certificates. Niko has come on tremendously since joining the academy and continues to impress with his enthusiasm, commitment, and positive attitude in every class. It is always a pleasure to have him training with us, and we are incredibly proud of everything he has achieved.

The summer holidays are now in full swing, but our Taekwondo Academy remains open throughout the break, giving children, teenagers, and adults the opportunity to stay active, continue learning, and have fun over the holidays. Under the guidance of our Head Coach, Miss Cummings, who has almost 20 years of teaching experience, we continue to help students build confidence, improve fitness, learn valuable life skills, and achieve their personal goals.

One of the things that makes our academy so special is the fantastic community we have built. Many of our members train alongside parents, siblings, and friends, creating lasting memories while encouraging one another every step of the way. Taekwondo truly is for everyone, with students ranging from toddlers taking their very first class through to adults in their 60s, all sharing the same welcoming and supportive environment.

Our Summer Side Kick Challenge is also well underway, with students getting creative by performing their best side kicks against fun summer backdrops. We have trophies up for grabs for the Best Side Kick, Best Backdrop, and Most Creative Entry, and we can’t wait to see all of the imaginative photos and videos our students submit.

If you’ve ever thought about giving Taekwondo a try, there has never been a better time. Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, boost your confidence, learn self-defence, or simply become part of a friendly community, we’d love to welcome you to the EK UKTC family.

June 2026

The UKTC Taekwon-Do programmes continue to grow in popularity at East Kilbride Taekwondo and Fitness Academy, with children, adults, and families all enjoying the many benefits of martial arts training. Our classes focus not only on fitness and self-defence, but also on confidence, discipline, respect, and personal development within a welcoming community environment. Free trial lessons are available for anyone looking to begin their martial arts journey.
Our Little Tiger Cub classes for children aged 3–5 years continue to thrive, with sticker books filling up quickly and many of our Tigers working hard towards their next belt assessments. Alongside learning Taekwon-Do techniques, our Tiger Cubs are also completing one of their important Personal Development Awards this assessment cycle, focusing on Personal Safety. Children have been learning valuable life skills including fire safety, water safety, road crossing awareness, and how to stay safe in everyday situations. These lessons are an important part of the programme and help children build confidence both inside and outside the training hall.
The Active Tiger classes for children aged 6–8 years, along with our junior and senior Taekwon-Do students, have recently taken part in their pre-grading seminar with Master Leckie (8th Degree Black Belt). Students have been focusing on perfecting their techniques, improving their patterns, and developing their sparring and self-defence skills as they prepare for their upcoming gradings in the next few weeks. It has been fantastic to see students showing determination and commitment as they work towards the next stage of their Taekwon-Do journey.
Our ASN classes also continue to receive fantastic feedback from families. These sessions provide a more supportive and flexible learning environment where children can learn at their own pace while still enjoying all the benefits of martial arts training. Classes currently run on Wednesdays at 4:15pm and Saturdays at 12:30pm.
At East Kilbride Taekwondo and Fitness Academy, we are proud to provide a positive environment where students of all ages can improve their fitness, confidence, and life skills while being part of a supportive community. Whether you are looking to build confidence, improve fitness, learn self-defence, or simply try something new, there is a place for everyone at UKTC Taekwon-Do.

Our new starts are settling in well and are already more active and more confident.

Our Little Tiger Cub classes for children aged 3-5 years have been learning new life skills this week. Our focus has been on Stranger Danger and our Little Tiger Cubs are hearing all about the adventures of TC the Tiger as he encounters strangers in the jungle. We believe that life skills are so important for our little ones.

The Active Tiger Classes for children aged 6-8 years are growing weekly and we have an exciting offer for our school age children with the School Holiday Training day on the 18th February 10-1pm. Children will be developing Taekwon-Do techniques as well as learning all about self defence! Please join us!

In other news, the ASN classes for children who prefer a more supportive environment are now available on both Wednesdays at 4.15 pm as well as on Saturdays  at 12.30pm. Children learn at their own pace and that’s exactly what we offer in these classes. Feedback so far has been fantastic.

Finally, following the success of the East Kilbride competitors in the recent Champions League competition on the 25th January, there is another chance to bring home medals! The English Championships will take place on 15th February at Penrith Leisure Centre! We can’t wait to see you there!
